is located east and north of Appleton and comes from the Native American word for "portage". Kaukauna was built along the Fox River for the use of its hydroelectric power. Hence the nickname "The Electric City". With over 15,000 people and being located on the soon to be Interstate 41, Kaukauna could easily be considered the cross roads of North East Wisconsin.
